The Most Effective Way for the Elderly to Lose Fat While Preserving Muscle Mass

As people age, it becomes increasingly difficult to both lose fat and preserve muscle mass.
A new study conducted by the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) in Australia has found that high-intensity interval training (HIIT) is the only exercise method that can help elderly adults lose fat while preserving muscle mass.
The study, which involved over 120 healthy elderly adults exercising three times a week for six months, compared the effects of different exercise intensities on body composition. All high, medium, and low-intensity exercises resulted in modest fat loss, but only HIIT preserved lean muscle mass.
The changes in body composition among the study participants were closely related to the development of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic diseases.
The research can help people make more informed decisions when creating exercise plans for healthy aging.
As people age, implementing an effective exercise method to prevent changes in body composition becomes crucial.
