Çiftçi noted that the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is the first and most important step in Turkey's nuclear journey. Thanks to Akkuyu, nuclear quality culture, international certification processes, and high-tech production capabilities have started to develop in Turkey.Çiftçi also mentioned Small Modular Reactors (SMR) technology, stating that these systems offer not only new-generation reactors but also strategic opportunities in terms of serial production, modular manufacturing, digital engineering, and industrial integration.Nuclear energy is no longer just about electricity production. Artificial intelligence applications, large language models, and data centers, advanced technology production, space research, and health technologies are rapidly increasing the need for uninterrupted energy.
Çiftçi expressed that the new nuclear power plant projects planned in Trakya and other regions will further expand Turkey's industrial ecosystem, and Turkish companies are ready to take on a greater role in new nuclear investments in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.Emphasizing that financing models should cover not only power plant investments but also supplier development, certification, local production, and export preparation processes, Çiftçi stressed the critical importance of public policies and the private sector moving in harmony.Turkey is determined to be an actor, not a spectator, in this transformation. Our goal is for Turkey to become a center for nuclear technology, engineering, supply, and export.
Akkuyu is the first and most important step in our nuclear energy journey. With Akkuyu, nuclear quality culture, international certification processes, and high-tech production capabilities have started to develop in Turkey.
