Fast Walking in the Elderly May Reduce Cognitive Decline Risk

A new study published in the United States has found that the walking speed of individuals over 80 years old may reduce the risk of cognitive decline.
The study, which examined the health records of approximately 5,000 people over 80, found that a rapid walking pace can significantly reduce the risk of cognitive impairment.
The walking speeds, cognitive test results, and in some cases, brain imaging of the participants were analyzed. The results showed that the likelihood of cognitive decline in fast walkers was about 48% lower.
Researchers noted that certain regions of the brain in these individuals had a larger volume, which could contribute to the preservation of cognitive functions.
