The Latest on US-Iran Tensions: Trump's Statements and the Future of War
Following US President Donald Trump's statement that 'the deal with Iran is over for me', US-Iran tensions have escalated again. The US military has struck 90 targets in Iran, while Tehran has retaliated with attacks on US bases in Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain. Foreign Policy Expert Haydar Oruç stated that the background of Trump's statements involves developments in the Strait of Hormuz. Oruç noted that Iran's attempts to control the passage through the strait and its attacks on some civilian ships have increased Trump's reaction:

It is not possible to say that Trump's words and the attacks on Iran targets have ended the ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran. Because while Trump says 'the deal is over for me, trying to make a deal with them is a waste of time', he also states that US negotiators can continue to negotiate and that the agreement is still valid, indicating that the US does not want to go back to war.

Trump's words can be seen as an attempt to limit Iran and force it to comply with the agreement, following Iran's attempts to control the passage through the Strait of Hormuz and its attacks on some civilian ships.

Oruç indicated that the current situation shows that the door to diplomacy is not completely closed. He also mentioned that Trump's approach to foreign policy has long followed a similar method and that his actions on the ground should be taken into account rather than his statements:

Despite all this, the fact that neither side has officially announced the end of the ceasefire process suggests that the ceasefire and negotiation process is still ongoing.

It is known that Trump has his own method of solving problems and approaching issues, which is different from the usual. Therefore, when following an event, it is necessary to look at what Trump does, rather than what he says, to understand where the process is going.

According to Oruç, in the current process, both the US and Iran are trying to present themselves as the stronger side to the public:

What matters is the developments on the ground, and it is clear that both sides do not want to go back to war despite various attacks and ceasefire violations, but are trying to present themselves as the winning side to their own public and the world.
