Greek PM Mitsotakis: 'We Do Not Foresee War with Turkey, Will Enhance Deterrence'
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that they do not foresee a war with Turkey but will continue to strengthen their deterrence. Mitsotakis mentioned that the primary issue they wish to resolve with Ankara is the delimitation of maritime zones. In an interview with Thanasis Mavridis, Mitsotakis made statements regarding Turkey. The Greek Prime Minister emphasized that they do not foresee war but are obligated to enhance their deterrence power.

This does not mean that we foresee war or that it is going to happen. Despite taking all these steps, that's the way it is. We will not ask anyone for permission to strengthen our armed forces; just as Turkey does not ask Greece what it will do with its own armed forces.

Mitsotakis also discussed Turkish tourists visiting the Eastern Aegean islands, stating that they not only support the islands' economy but also bring the people closer together.

I will always defend and fight for the fact that we are 'condemned' to live together in peace due to our geography, and sometimes to live together with our differences. However, I will always try to negotiate with Turkey from the strongest possible position.

Mitsotakis said that in a potential meeting with Erdogan, he would express Greece's willingness to address the issue of maritime zone delimitation.

If this issue is resolved, I say that Greece could also become a 'bridge' for Turkey towards Europe; and vice versa. But if it is not resolved, it will always be an obstacle in terms of Turkey-Europe relations.
