New Study Suggests Earth May Have Been Transporting Life to Venus for Billions of Years
Earth may have been 'transporting' microscopic life forms to Venus for billions of years. A new study by scientists suggests that asteroids and comets colliding with planets can launch microorganisms into space, and some of these particles may have reached Venus' clouds. This possibility was calculated using the 'Venus Life Equation' model developed by scientists from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. The model shows that material ejected from Earth could host microorganisms that can survive for days or even longer in the Venusian atmosphere.According to the study, hundreds of billions of microscopic 'life cells' may have been transported from Earth to Venus over the past billion years. Some of these may have survived in Venus' cloud layers. It is noted that this process does not represent a continuous and regular transfer, but rather that cosmic collisions can occasionally lead to the transport of life.
