Tension at Yeditepe University Graduation Ceremony Over Quran Verse Banner

Tension at Yeditepe University Graduation Ceremony Over Quran Verse Banner
Yeditepe University has initiated an administrative investigation into the incident where a banner containing a verse from the Quran was obstructed by some students during the Law Faculty's graduation ceremony on July 7. The university emphasized its commitment to the fundamental principles of the Constitution, national and spiritual values, freedom of faith, and academic freedom since its establishment. The university administration stated that it does not accept any student being subjected to pressure due to their faith or having their basic rights obstructed, and that associating the institution with an understanding opposed to religion or faith does not reflect reality. According to initial assessments, the debate during the ceremony was directed at the individual, not the verse on the banner. However, attempts to prevent the banner from being visible were also deemed to be against the values adopted by the university, and it was stated that no disrespect towards any sacred value or faith can be tolerated. While denying social media claims that the university has an anti-Islamic stance, the university announced that an administrative investigation has been launched and that the practices regarding graduation ceremonies will be reviewed to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
