Network That Scammed Elderly Man Brought Down: 5 Suspects Detained

In Istanbul, an elderly retiree in his 80s lost a significant amount of gold from his home after falling prey to scammers posing as police and prosecutors. Following this incident, authorities launched a large-scale operation to apprehend the scammers.Scammers, posing as authorities over the phone, convinced 83-year-old retiree Dinçer Kazancı to hand over 1,758 Turkish Gold Coins that were in his home to an individual who came to his house. After realizing what had happened, Kazancı immediately went to the police station to file a complaint.An investigation was promptly launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. As a result of the investigation, which involved the Intelligence Directorate and the Technical Tracking and Surveillance Bureau, 7 suspects linked to the incident were identified. In simultaneous operations conducted in Istanbul and Şanlıurfa, 5 suspects were taken into custody, while efforts to apprehend the 2 remaining suspects who are currently at large continue.
