Turkish Court Rules: Forcing Partner to Share Live Location and Insults are 'Equal Fault'

The Turkish Court of Appeals has made a significant ruling in a divorce case in Ankara. The court found that forcing a partner to share their live location every evening and insulting them are considered 'equal fault'. In the divorce case, the woman claimed that she was forced to share her live location with her husband every evening and that her husband's family treated her as an 'unwanted daughter-in-law' after her surgery and called her 'barren'. The young woman alleged that her husband insulted her, saying 'You're empty, you can't have children, I don't want you, take your dowry and leave', and that he economically abused her by canceling her credit cards. The court rejected the parties' compensation claims and ruled in favor of the woman, granting her 20,000 lira in lump-sum alimony. The 2nd Chamber of the Court of Appeals upheld the local court's decision, reaffirming that excessive control and insulting behavior in a marriage can be grounds for divorce and fault.
