New Regulation for Foreign-Plated Vehicles: Those Who Don't Pay Their Debts Won't Be Allowed to Leave the Country

With the new regulation published in the Official Gazette, the rules for foreign-plated vehicles' toll road and bridge crossings have been updated. Foreign-plated vehicles that do not pay their tolls and administrative fines will not be allowed to leave the country. According to the regulation, foreign-plated vehicles that make unauthorized crossings on highways and bridges operated by the General Directorate of Highways and those that operate under the Build-Operate-Transfer model will not be allowed to leave the country if they do not pay their tolls and administrative fines. Under the regulation, tolls and administrative fines for foreign-plated vehicles can be paid by bank or credit card at customs gates, as well as in cash at the customs administration's accounting department. In the country, payments for unauthorized crossings can be made through PTT branches and affiliated banks. The new regulation will also enable data sharing between the General Directorate of Highways, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and the Ministry of Trade.
