US Southern Command Deploys 2 Ships and Aircraft to Aid Venezuela
The US Southern Command has deployed two military ships and transport aircraft to support relief operations in Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes. These forces will provide transportation and support to US government personnel, search and rescue teams, and interagency partners as they assess damage, locate survivors, and deliver critical aid. SOUTHCOM Commander General Francis L. Donovan has directed significant forces to this effort, including the amphibious transport ship USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28) and the littoral combat ship USS Billings (LCS 15). C-17 Globemaster and C-130 Hercules transport aircraft will also provide support, along with reconnaissance platforms and rotary-wing aircraft
