A new earthquake of magnitude 5.1 has struck Venezuela. This is the latest aftershock following two major earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5. The death toll has risen to 1430, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Delcy Rodriguez, acting president, announced that 33 more people, including several children, were rescued from the rubble over the weekend. La Guaira state has been the most severely affected, with around 50,000 people still reported missing according to an opposition-backed website.The population is on edge due to the numerous aftershocks in the region. Authorities have praised the efforts of civilian volunteers who are working despite a lack of heavy equipment, but have imposed some restrictions to prioritize access for emergency vehicles. Venezuela's power grid, which has been plagued by infrastructure issues and economic difficulties for years, experienced frequent outages even before the earthquake. Electricity is being restored gradually. As the country experiences one of the deadliest earthquakes of the century, the critical hours of hope and concern continue for the thousands trapped under the debris.
