Death Toll in Venezuela's Twin Earthquakes Exceeds 4,500
The number of people who lost their lives in the two major earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 4,490. Venezuela's National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez made statements regarding the earthquakes. The number of fatalities increased by 157 to 4,490, according to Rodriguez, who also announced that the number of injured is 16,740. Rodriguez stated that humanitarian aid has been delivered to 120,794 families following the earthquakes, and the number of temporary tent cities established in La Guaira, Caracas, and Miranda states, where the most fatalities occurred, has increased to 108. According to national media, the Venezuelan government has initiated biometric census work to determine the housing needs after the earthquake disaster. The government anticipates that approximately 25,000 new homes may be needed, based on initial assessments.
