Death Toll from Earthquakes in Venezuela Rises to 4,333

The number of people who lost their lives in the two major earthquakes that occurred in Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 4,333. Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez made statements about the earthquakes at a press conference in the capital, Caracas.Rodriguez stated that the number of people who lost their lives in the disaster increased by 215 to 4,333. He also shared that the number of injured is 16,740. Rodriguez announced that it is planned to build 25,000 new homes for more than 17,900 people who lost their homes.Rodriguez drew attention to the fact that the number of people left homeless may increase with the completion of the inspection process in damaged buildings, and reported that debris removal and corpse search efforts are ongoing. Rodriguez stated,

We cannot act on speculation, we have to act on the basis of facts. As of yesterday, there are 315 people whose identities have not been determined. The identities of these individuals could not be identified by their relatives, nor could their fingerprints be matched with any identity information in the system. This number corresponds to 7 percent of the total number of people who lost their lives.

Rodriguez reported that 9,766 tons of food and 13.9 million liters of water have been distributed to those affected by the earthquakes so far, and 1,203 aftershocks have occurred since June 24.
