Miraculous Rescue in Venezuela: Survivor Pulled from Rubble After 8 Days

Following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela, a 44-year-old security guard, Hernan Alberto Gil Flores, was rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed shopping mall parking garage in La Guaira after an 8-day ordeal.
Gil's wife, Usbimar Gonzales, stated, 'When I learned that my husband was alive, I felt hopeful again. He really resisted like a hero.' Gonzales added that their children are also waiting for their father to return home.Rescue teams managed to establish communication with Gil under the rubble and provided him with water, electrolyte solutions, medication, and food through a hose. Sebastián Mocorquer from the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team noted that 'being rescued alive seven days after a major earthquake is extremely rare.'According to experts, the most critical period for reaching survivors after an earthquake is the 'golden 72 hours.' If access to water is not available, the chances of survival decrease rapidly after this period. The first sign that Gil might be alive was detected last Sunday by the Costa Rican Red Cross.
