A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean. According to USGS data, the earthquake had a focal depth of 188 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued following the quake, and there have been no reports of casualties or damage so far.Vanuatu is located in a highly seismically active region where the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates meet. The country's position in this region makes it prone to significant seismic activity. In December last year, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit the area, resulting in at least 14 fatalities and over 200 injuries.USGS data shows that within the past 100 years, there have been 24 earthquakes with a magnitude of 7 or higher in the vicinity of Vanuatu.
