Details of Student Amnesty in Universities Revealed

The Higher Education Council (YÖK) has announced the procedures and principles for students returning to universities under the student amnesty. Those who want to benefit from the arrangement must apply to the higher education institution where their connection was cut or where they won the right to register by December 9. Students who are accepted will be able to start their education in the 2026-2027 academic year. No contribution or tuition fee will be charged from students who return to university for the years prior to their registration date. With the law that came into effect on August 9, those who had their connections cut from universities and those who could not register despite winning a higher education program will have the opportunity to return to higher education.The regulation covers students who have been cut off from their programs, including preparation classes, adaptation, associate's degree, undergraduate, and graduate programs. Those who won a higher education program but could not register can also benefit from the regulation if they apply within the specified period. Students who want to benefit from the student amnesty must apply to the higher education institution where they won the right to register or where their connection was cut by December 9.Those who cannot apply by December 9 due to force majeure will have an additional opportunity under certain conditions. These individuals can apply within 1 month after the force majeure is lifted. Those who cannot apply on time due to health reasons must submit a board report by the end of working hours on December 9.The regulation also determines which individuals cannot benefit from the student amnesty. Those convicted of terrorism, intentional murder, torture, abuse, sexual assault, child abuse, drug trafficking, and other crimes listed in the regulation cannot benefit from the student amnesty.YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar stated that the higher education system prioritizes students and their future, and that it is valuable for young people who cannot continue their higher education for various reasons to return to their education and complete their unfinished dreams. Özvar noted that students who lost their right to education or had their registration canceled within 4 months after the regulation came into effect can also benefit from this right.
