Ukrainian Care Home Director Detained for Allegedly Forcing Mentally Disabled Residents into Labor
The director of a care home in Ukraine's Ternopil region has been detained for allegedly forcing mentally disabled residents into labor. The Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office claims the director systematically sent residents to work on various jobs and took their earnings for himself. An investigation into human trafficking and forced labor allegations has found that mentally disabled individuals were made to work on private farms, construction projects, and cleaning cemeteries. It is reported that the director received between 150 and 450 Ukrainian grivnas per day, equivalent to approximately $3.30 to $10 USD. The investigation shows that those in need of labor would contact the care home director directly to agree on the type of work and working hours.
