Ukraine's Energy Crisis Deepens: Large Cities May Become Uninhabitable in Winter

Ukraine's energy crisis is worsening, with the German press warning that major cities could become uninhabitable during the winter months. The country's energy deficit is expected to double in the coming months. Ukraine's energy production has decreased significantly since 2022, with its electricity generation capacity falling from 60 GW to 12 GW. The current energy deficit is around 5-6 GW and is expected to double with the onset of cold weather. Last winter, temperatures in Kiev fell as low as -10 degrees Celsius. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged that the country is facing a very difficult winter. Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov also stated that the country is not prepared for winter in terms of gas and coal stocks.
