Turkey's Leading Cause of Death Revealed: Circulatory System Diseases Top the List
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released the 2025 mortality and cause of death statistics. According to the data, the total number of deaths in 2025 was 491,684. The leading cause of death was circulatory system diseases, accounting for 34.7% of all deaths. The majority of deaths were among men.The province with the highest crude death rate was Sinop, with a rate of 10.8 per 1,000 people. Sinop was followed by Kastamonu, Giresun, and Balıkesir. The lowest crude death rate was observed in Şırnak, with a rate of 2.3 per 1,000 people. An examination of the causes of death revealed that circulatory system diseases were the leading cause, followed by benign and malignant tumors, and respiratory system diseases. The number of infant deaths decreased from 8,484 in 2024 to 6,988 in 2025.
