Turkey Bows Out of FIVB Nations League After Losing to Slovenia
The Turkish National Men's Volleyball Team was defeated by Slovenia 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIVB Nations League, thus ending their journey in the tournament. The national team, which reached this stage for the first time in their history, put up a tough fight against Slovenia. In the first set, both sides played effectively, but Slovenia took the lead with a 15-13 advantage. Turkey, with the attacks of Murat Yenipazar and Adis Lagumdzija, as well as the defense of Efe Bayram, managed to equalize the score at 20-20, but Slovenia won the set 25-21, taking a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, both teams were cautious in their attacks, and by the middle of the set, Turkey had taken a 12-11 lead. However, Slovenia managed to gain an advantage with their middle attacks, which Turkey could not counter. After the entry of Ahmet Tümer and Mirza Lagumdzija, Turkey took the lead at 23-22 but ultimately lost the set 35-33, falling behind 2-0 in the match. In the final set, Slovenia played more effectively, taking a 17-12 lead. Turkey, with good plays and effective attacks, managed to equalize the score at 20-20. After a highly contested game, Turkey had 11 chances to serve for the set but could not capitalize on this opportunity, and Slovenia won the set 39-37, taking the match 3-0.
