Turkey's Active Fault Map Updated: 215 New Faults Added

The General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) has updated the Turkey Active Fault Map after 13 years of detailed field studies and scientific research. With the new data, the number of active faults, which was previously determined as 485 in 2013, has increased to 700.
As a result, 215 new active faults have been added to the map of Turkey. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan emphasized that each fault has produced earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.5 and above in the past.
Ercan made a statement on his social media account regarding the updated map and highlighted the importance of the study.
