Turkey's Disaster Response Plan Updated: Which Cities Will Help Istanbul in Case of an Earthquake?

Turkey's Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) is being updated based on recent earthquake experiences. In the event of a disaster, the number of cities that will provide assistance to Istanbul will increase from 17 to 23. This update also prohibits the unauthorized sharing of images of disaster victims who are helpless or injured. Human rights and dignity will be respected during rescue and relief efforts. The TAMP draft is open to public comment, and public institutions and private sector representatives can submit their views and suggestions until the end of the week. The plan was prepared by the Ministry of Interior's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) in consultation with relevant ministries, institutions, and organizations. The draft also identifies the cities that will provide priority assistance to Istanbul in the event of a disaster. The 23 cities that will provide assistance to Istanbul are "İzmir, Samsun, Antalya, Ankara, Bursa, Eskişehir, Sakarya, Afyonkarahisar, Kayseri, Kastamonu, Bolu, Kırklareli, Zonguldak, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Konya, Bilecik, Balıkesir, Erzurum, Rize, Gaziantep, Trabzon, Adana". Public institutions, universities, municipalities, and private sector organizations will work together to provide assistance.
