Important Recommendation to the Ministry of Trade: Review Customs Regulations for Personal Purchases
The Public Monitoring Agency recommended that the Ministry of Trade review customs regulations for low-value and non-commercial personal purchases. A retired turner-miller, who imports technological products from abroad for his grandchildren's technical high school projects, applied to the KDK, stating that the Ministry of Trade's recent regulations made it difficult to access these products. The citizen requested that the limit for personal purchases be increased and the existing restrictions be re-examined. The KDK examined the application and stated that the regulations should be re-examined after necessary examination and research. This situation resulted in consequences that need to be evaluated in terms of predictability and legal security for consumers. It was stated that the application should be re-examined and re-researched. It was emphasized that it is crucial for consumers to be able to foresee the additional liabilities they may face, such as taxes, declarations, storage, consulting, and fast cargo operator service fees, in a clear and understandable manner.
