Taiwan Launches Large-Scale Drill in Response to 'Simulated Chinese Attack': Internet to be Intentionally Disrupted

Taiwan has initiated a large-scale military exercise in the Penghu Islands, utilizing live ammunition, amidst escalating tensions with China. The Penghu Islands witnessed significant activity early Monday morning, with troops deployed along the coastlines; M60A3 tanks, artillery systems, and anti-aircraft guns were used to conduct a 'multi-layered' defense drill against potential enemy airborne and amphibious assaults. The capture of Penghu, located in close proximity to the Chinese coastline, poses a risk of establishing a forward base for missile and drone attacks against the main island of Taiwan. Consequently, Taiwanese military strategists consider the defense of this region to be a critical threshold. This year's Han Kuang exercise incorporates a unique digital test, encompassing not only military deployments but also civilian infrastructure. The Taiwanese government will intentionally reduce mobile internet speeds to simulate the potential damage to base stations during a conflict. The first test will be conducted today in the central region, while the second test will take place on August 13 in the northern regions, including the capital Taipei.
