Tragedy in Thailand: 11-Year-Old Boy Crashes Truck into Buddhist Monks, Killing 8
A devastating traffic accident occurred in Thailand's Mukdahan province. A truck driven by an 11-year-old boy with special needs crashed into a group of Buddhist monks on a pilgrimage, resulting in the loss of 8 lives and injuring over 20 people. The group of 34 Buddhist monks and 5 civilian followers were walking along the side of the road when the truck struck them. According to Mukdahan Governor Vorayan Bunarat, five monks died at the scene, while three others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. A total of 22 monks and one civilian were injured, with four of them reported to be in critical condition. Mukdahan Police Chief Lieutenant General Pairoj Thaiphutra stated that the 11-year-old boy had taken the truck from his family's home without permission and drove it for approximately 10 kilometers before crashing into the group of monks. The police are currently investigating the cause of the accident and have not made any accusations at this time. Authorities have reported that the boy is in shock and has not yet been able to provide a statement. He will be questioned under the supervision of child protection officers. Security camera footage shared by local rescue teams shows the truck crashing into the group of monks as they walked in a single file along the side of the road. Witnesses reported that the truck was swerving before the crash, and the police are still determining the exact cause of the accident.
