New Era in Syria: First Session of the People's Council Held

The first session of the People's Council in Syria under the new administration was held under the presidency of President Ahmed Shara. The session, attended by the elected members of the council and 70 members appointed by Shara, took place after a delay of approximately one week. During the inaugural ceremony, the members of parliament took their oaths. The session was also attended by representatives of several foreign countries as honorary guests. In his speech, President Shara stated that Syria is writing a new history and called for the beginning of a new chapter in the construction of modern Syria.The total number of council members has increased from 140 to 210 with the appointment of 70 new members by President Shara. However, the seats of the deceased member from Idlib and the three seats allocated to the province of Sweida remain vacant. Shara emphasized that everyone faces great responsibility and that the destruction caused by years of tyranny, war, and devastation requires prioritizing the interests of the nation and working together as a single team.
