Syria Sends Letter to UN Condemning Colombia's Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty Over Occupied Golan Heights

Syria has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres protesting Colombia's decision to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights. The Syrian government condemned Colombia's decision and stated that the Golan Heights are under Israeli occupation and that claims of sovereignty over the region are unacceptable. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned Colombia's decision and announced that it will continue to support the preservation of Syria's territorial integrity. The Colombian government had announced on August 10 that it recognizes 'Israeli sovereignty' over the occupied Syrian territory of the Golan Heights. Former Colombian President Gustavo Petro had strongly criticized the idea of re-establishing diplomatic relations with Israel, saying 'establishing relations with a government that has killed 22,000 babies with rockets in Gaza is an insult to our national honor, it's fascism.'
