Super Movers' Brain Health: Reduced Risk of Dementia

Super Movers' Brain Health: Reduced Risk of Dementia
Individuals over 80, known as 'super movers,' have a lower risk of cognitive decline despite having dementia indicators in their brains. This research suggests that walking speed may be a key indicator of healthy brain aging. The study, published in Neurology and conducted by researchers at Stony Brook University, examined the brain health of 'super movers' over 80. The study found that these individuals were able to preserve their cognitive functions better despite brain changes associated with dementia. The researchers followed approximately 4,000 adults and found that 'super movers' had stronger cognitive performance. The study also found that this group had fewer diagnoses of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The most striking finding was that these individuals were able to preserve their cognitive functions despite having dementia-related changes in their brains.
