Woman Arrested Over Social Media Posts

A woman named Hatice Öncel was arrested after making a certain post on social media. An investigation was launched against Öncel on charges of 'publicly inciting hatred and enmity'. Following the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Öncel was taken into custody and later referred to the court. After giving her statement to the prosecutor's office, Öncel was brought before the judge with a request for her arrest. She stated that she did not intentionally make the certain post, expressed regret, and mentioned that her mother also wears a headscarf. The Peace Criminal Judge's Office ruled for Öncel's arrest on charges of 'publicly inciting hatred and enmity'.
