Serbian President Vucic to Resign: Election Decision Made

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced his resignation during the 'Serbia, One Family' rally in Belgrade , paving the way for the country to head into elections. Vucic stated, 'I will resign within a few weeks and announce that our country will go to elections.' According to the Ministry of Interior, approximately 207,000 people attended the rally. Vucic expressed his support for the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its management, stating that he would help the party receive a vote of confidence from the people again.President Vucic mentioned that the name of the party's victory list in the upcoming elections would be 'United Serbia.' However, he did not provide clarity on the date of the elections or whether they would be presidential or parliamentary elections. Vucic emphasized that Serbia would maintain its traditional friendships with China and Russia while also fulfilling its obligations on the path to Europe.Vucic's term was originally set to end in the spring of 2027. According to the constitution, if the president resigns early, elections must be held within 90 days. The demand for early elections has been a key issue in the protests that began after the roof collapse at the Novi Sad train station.
