Heatwave Measures: Restrictions on Alcohol Consumption and Sales in Paris

As the heatwave continues to affect France, the capital city of Paris is experiencing a significant increase in hospital occupancy rates. In response, authorities have banned alcohol consumption in public areas on weekends and restricted sales after 18.00. Paris Police Chief Patrice Faure emphasized the need to reduce the pressure on the healthcare system in 'red alert' cities. By order of the prefecture, alcohol consumption in public areas was prohibited from 12.00 on June 26 to 07.00 on June 27 and from 12.00 on June 27 to 07.00 on June 28. On June 23, France recorded its hottest day since 1947 with a temperature of 29.9 degrees, resulting in approximately 20 deaths due to heat-related causes and over 40 deaths by drowning. The measures taken to combat the heatwave are aimed at protecting public health and reducing the burden on hospitals. The ban on alcohol consumption and sales will remain in place throughout the weekend, and authorities are urging citizens to comply with these regulations.
