Sebta Migration Crisis: Over 69,500 Returned to Morocco, Death Toll Reaches 67

Following the mass irregular migration attempt to Spain's North African territory of Sebta, approximately 69,500 people have returned to Morocco. The number of people who lost their lives at the border has risen to 67, while Spain has begun constructing a new floating security barrier. The European Union has called for an emergency meeting due to the crisis. Spanish authorities announced that in the last 30 hours, about 69,500 irregular migrants have returned to Morocco, with no new mass crossing attempts recorded overnight. The Spanish Ministry of Interior stated that the number of undocumented migrants who lost their lives trying to cross from Morocco to Sebta has increased to 67. Authorities reported that most of the deaths were due to drowning at sea and overcrowding at the border.
