Hundreds Waiting for News of Missing Relatives at Ceuta Border
In the city of Fenidek, Morocco, hundreds of people are waiting for news of their missing relatives after a massive border crossing into Ceuta, a Spanish territory in North Africa. The incidents have resulted in the loss of at least 88 lives in Ceuta and 11 in Morocco, with many more still missing. Families holding photos of their loved ones have been waiting at the border crossing for days. The Spanish Ministry of Interior reported that most of the approximately 70,000 people who crossed into Ceuta have been returned to Morocco, while around 2,000 remain in the territory. The Spanish police have set up a special unit in Ceuta to collect reports of missing persons. Discussions are ongoing in both Morocco and Spain about the causes of the massive border crossing. Moroccan officials claim that false information spread on social media directed thousands of people to the border, while Spanish intelligence sources suggest that the rapid spread of misinformation on social media may have triggered the wave of migration.
