San Francisco Archdiocese to Pay $395 Million in Child Abuse Cases

The San Francisco Archdiocese has agreed to a $395 million settlement to resolve over 500 cases of alleged child abuse by church officials. As part of the agreement, letters of apology will be sent to the victims and new child protection reforms will be implemented.
The settlement covers approximately 530 victims. The Archdiocese had filed for bankruptcy protection in 2023. The Archbishop of San Francisco will send a personal letter of apology to each victim.
The agreement includes not only financial compensation but also comprehensive reforms for child protection. The Archdiocese will implement these reforms as part of the settlement.
