Russia Foils Large-Scale Terrorist Attack on Military Airbase
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced that it foiled a large-scale terrorist attack planned by Ukrainian military intelligence, with the participation of Western coordinators, targeting the 'Rostov-Tsentralniy' military airbase. According to the statement from the FSB, Ukrainian intelligence services planned to carry out extensive sabotage and terrorist acts using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) against Russia's military infrastructure facilities, a leading defense industry enterprise, and personnel of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The statement stated that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) attempted to recruit a Russian citizen to bomb the Rostov-Tsentralniy military airbase in the Rostov region for a fee. After the Russian citizen voluntarily reported the situation to the security forces, the process was carried out under the control of the FSB authorities. During the follow-up process, the coordinates of the secret area where the UAVs were hidden and the attack instructions were obtained from the Ukrainian military intelligence officer. In the operation, 13 FPV drones equipped with artificial intelligence systems and carrying more than 1 kilogram of TNT equivalent explosives each were seized and neutralized. The FSB stated that the purpose of the attack was to destroy the airbase infrastructure, neutralize the military personnel, and destroy the aircraft fleet. Investigations and search activities are ongoing to identify all individuals and circumstances related to the incident and the planned attack.
