Russia and the US Agree to Extend the ISS Mission Until 2030

Russia and the US have agreed to extend the International Space Station's (ISS) mission until 2030. Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin announced that the Russian space agency and NASA had reached an agreement on the joint operation of the ISS until 2030. Rogozin stated that the agreement covers three main areas. The first is the extension of the joint operation of the ISS until 2030. According to the agreement, Russian and American crews will continue to fly on each other's spacecraft. Roscosmos and NASA signed the first agreement on integrated crew flights in 2022, and the agreement has been extended three times since then. This practice is considered necessary to ensure that each country can keep its own segment of the station operational with at least one of its citizens in case of an emergency or changes in flight schedules. Rogozin emphasized that the parties will continue to work on technical coordination and standard development for national orbital stations in the post-ISS era. NASA President Jared Isaacman noted that the joint standards being developed could also be used in the future space stations of both countries.
