Russia Responds to UK's Plan to Supply Enriched Uranium to Ukraine
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the UK's plan to supply enriched uranium to Ukraine for nuclear power plants. Zakharova stated that London's goal is to “score political points through the Zelensky regime” rather than addressing commercial concerns.Russia questioned the true intentions behind the UK's plan. Zakharova noted that Ukraine lacks the industrial infrastructure to produce nuclear fuel, and the material would likely be sent to a nuclear fuel production facility in a third country.According to London's statements, the agreement does not appear to be related to the production of a ‘dirty bomb’. Zakharova emphasized the need for the process to comply with international law, stating, “Much depends on the exporting country ensuring that Kiev fulfills its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The nuclear material must be placed under the guarantees of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).”
