Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zakharova Comments on the Black Sea

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made statements regarding Turkey's proposal for a moratorium on military actions in the Black Sea. Zakharova noted that Moscow carefully considers peace initiatives from foreign partners.As stated, despite Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's announcement that a moratorium was proposed to the Russian and Ukrainian sides in the Black Sea, no official Turkish application outlining the conditions of this initiative has been received through official channels. Zakharova recalled the past 'Black Sea Initiative' process, emphasizing that returning to the unilateral practices of 2022-2023 would not be logical. The Russian diplomat pointed out that the humanitarian corridor provided was widely used to organize terrorist attacks against Russian civilian and military facilities, while Russian agricultural products continued to be under sanctions, ultimately leading to the end of the Black Sea Initiative. Zakharova also underscored that Turkey is an important regional actor and a neighboring country in the Black Sea. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had announced that a proposal had been made to the parties in the Ukrainian crisis to stop attacks in the Black Sea.
