Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Meets with Sahel Countries Alliance Foreign Ministers

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Niamey, the capital of Niger, as part of his African tour and held bilateral talks with foreign ministers of countries in the Sahel Countries Alliance. The fight against terrorism was a key topic in the discussions. According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov held separate meetings with Niger's Foreign Minister Bakari Yau Sangare, Burkina Faso's Foreign Minister Jean-Marie Traore, and Mali's Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated, “We emphasized that one of the main areas of cooperation between Russia and the Sahel Countries Alliance is the fight against terrorism.” Previously, a meeting of foreign ministers in the Russia-AGS format was held in Niamey, and the parties signed a number of joint documents. Lavrov's visit to Niger was part of his African tour, which began in Ethiopia.
