Russian Foreign Ministry: EU Has No Right to Inspect Ships Carrying Cargo in Russia's Interests

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the European Union (EU) has no right to inspect ships carrying cargo in Russia's interests.In a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, it was noted that EU countries' naval forces do not have the right to inspect ships to determine whether they are carrying cargo in accordance with Russia's interests.The statement on the Ministry's website stated that the EU uses the IRINI Operation to counter Russia's interests in transporting oil and other cargo by sea off the coast of Libya.The statement also recalled that the IRINI operation's tasks approved by the UN Security Council include monitoring compliance with the arms embargo imposed on Libya, gathering information on illegal oil exports from Libya, and monitoring illegal human trafficking in open seas, emphasizing that these powers expired in May.
