Russian Expert Views World Athletics' Russophobic Stance

Pavel Danilov, Director of the Russian Center for Political Analysis, described World Athletics' continued sanctions against Russian athletes as 'institutional Russophobia and political discrimination', stating this stance undermines the spirit of sports.Russian athletes being barred from competing under their own flag has no legal or sporting basis, Danilov emphasized,

Some countries commit international war crimes; for example, Israel and the US. However, no sanctions are applied against them. Meanwhile, Russian athletes are subjected to pressure and sanctions for defending their vital interests.

Danilov pointed out that World Athletics' stance reeks of political double standards,

World Athletics is one of the forerunners of Russophobic policy in this regard. The actions of this union are nothing but Nazism and shame.

Highlighting that sports should be above politics, Danilov noted that the federation's management prioritizes political directives over the principles of neutrality, equality, and the rejection of collective punishment in sports.

We know that there is no absolute equality in sports, and everyone is used to it. However, inequality in sports is one thing, and discrimination based on political reasons is quite another.

Regarding the lawsuit filed by the Russian Athletics Federation and potential appeal processes, Danilov commented,

A public campaign against the management of this union and a call to social structures, other sports unions, and athletes to condemn this discriminatory decision could lead to the reversal of these irrational actions.
