Russian Political Scientist Evaluates World Athletics’ Decision: Political, Russophobic, and Double Standard
Russian political scientist Yevgeniy Semenov evaluated the decision of World Athletics not to allow Russian athletes to participate in international competitions. Semenov described this decision as completely political, russophobic, and double standard.Semenov stated that the decision to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport would be a long process and that it is unrealistic to expect a quick outcome.Recalling that Belarus is also under sanctions, Semenov said, “Belarus is not involved in any military operations, yet it is being punished. This shows how biased and politicized the decision is.”The Russian expert described the lack of similar measures against athletes from countries like the US and Israel as an example of institutional russophobia and open double standards.Semenov also discussed the Russian Athletics Federation’s decision to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, stating that it is unrealistic to expect a quick resolution to the process.“This is not a sprint, but a real marathon, or even a relay race” said Semenov, emphasizing that sports are still heavily politicized, but all legal and legitimate avenues must be pursued to the end.
