Reform UK Leader Nigel Farage Resigns as MP

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage announced his resignation as an MP after it emerged that he had not declared donations he received. However, Farage stated that he will run again in the upcoming by-election for the seat he is vacating. Farage mentioned that his party had achieved success in the 2024 general elections, the local elections on May 8, and the regional parliament elections in Scotland and Wales. He claimed that the results they obtained in the strongholds of the ruling Labour Party would unseat Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Farage alleged that different methods were being used against him. Defending himself, Farage stated, "I made zero expenses during my first two years as an MP. You didn't read this in the mainstream media. Parliament has its own rules for how MPs should behave, and I have adhered to them." Businessman Cottrell, who was once Farage's advisor, was tried in the US in 2017 for "money laundering" and "fraud" and received an 8-month prison sentence for fraud. The Sunday Times reported last week that Cottrell had covered Farage's private security costs, paid the salaries of his social media team, provided him with the use of a house near Buckingham Palace, and covered some of his travels before the 2024 elections.
