RDIF CEO Dmitriyev: EU Faces Energy Crisis It Triggered Itself

The CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Kirill Dmitriyev, emphasized that the EU's policy of abandoning Russian gas has led to a severe energy crisis. With underground gas storage facilities not being filled sufficiently, Dmitriyev pointed out that winter is approaching.

As winter approaches in an environment where Russian gas is being abandoned, Germany has only been able to fill its underground gas storage facilities to 47.6%, whereas normally it should be 75%. In the Netherlands, the rate is only 38.5%, as opposed to the usual 77%. The EU is facing an energy crisis that it has triggered itself.

The European Union Council had approved a regulation providing for a gradual withdrawal from importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and pipeline gas from Russia. Dmitriyev stated that the EU is facing an energy crisis that it has triggered itself.
