Beijing Prepares for Floods: Over a Third of Annual Rainfall Expected in 24 Hours

China's capital Beijing is bracing for a new wave of severe rain brought by the moisture from Typhoon Dolphin. The city expects over 150 mm of rainfall within 24 hours, with some areas possibly exceeding 200 mm. A level 2 flood emergency plan has been put into effect in Beijing. Authorities reported that over 100 mm of rainfall is expected within 6 hours, and up to 150 mm within 24 hours. The average annual rainfall in Beijing is 528 mm. Some districts, including Tongzhou, Daxing, Fangshan, Mentougou, Huairou, and Fengtai, may see over 200 mm of rainfall within 24 hours. Severe rain is expected until tomorrow, prompting the activation of the level 2 flood emergency plan, preparation of drainage equipment and flood barriers, and evacuation of residents in flood-risk areas.
