Research Reveals Sitting Posture Can Affect Mood and Decision Making

Researchers from McGill University have discovered that the way people sit during the day can affect not only their spinal health but also their mood and decision-making process.
In a study involving approximately 200 people, it was found that participants who sat upright felt more positive and were better at balancing risk and reward.
The researchers emphasized that while the effect is not large, physical posture can play a measurable role in psychological processes.
The participants in the study were directed to sit upright or lean forward by adjusting the position of the computer.
At the end of the experiment, it was found that the participants who sat upright earned higher rewards in a game based on risk and reward.
The researchers evaluated that this was due to more effective risk-taking behavior, not impulsive action.
The study also reported that the participants who sat upright felt a greater sense of pride and had a more positive overall mood.
The researchers noted that simply changing one's sitting posture may not drastically change one's life, but the office setup, desk ergonomics, and work environment can have small but measurable effects on people's emotional state and decision-making processes.
