Automotive Market Contracts by 8.19% in the First Half of the Year

The sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey decreased by 8.19% in the first half of the year compared to the same period of the previous year. According to the data shared by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), total sales in this period decreased by 8.19% to 558,179 units.
Car sales decreased by 9.79% in the first half of the year, while light commercial vehicle sales decreased by 1.69% to 117,945. The majority of the market consisted of vehicles in the A, B, and C segments, which have lower tax rates. C-segment cars had a sales figure of 241,100 units with a share of 54.8%, while B-segment cars had a sales figure of 130,476 units with a share of 29.6%.
In terms of body types, SUV models were the most preferred cars with a share of 64.6% and 284,493 sales. They were followed by sedans and hatchbacks (H/B). This decline in car and light commercial vehicle sales reflects the general trend of the sector.
There were also significant changes in the sales of gasoline, hybrid, electric, diesel, and LPG-powered cars. While sales of electric cars with less than 160 kilowatts increased, those with more than 160 kilowatts decreased. Sales by different engine capacities also varied. Automatic transmission cars made up the majority of sales.
