Russian Attacks on Odessa Ports are Choking Ukraine's Economy

Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson stated that Russia's attacks on Ukraine's Odessa ports have brought port activities to a standstill, which is negatively impacting the Ukrainian economy. Ukraine has lost a significant source of revenue. Johnson emphasized that the loss of export opportunities has deprived the country of essential financial inflows.

Odessa is no longer a functioning port. It's closed and is likely to remain so in the foreseeable future. It's difficult to predict whether this destruction is happening quickly or slowly, but it's clearly choking the Ukrainian economy.

The crisis in the ports was also confirmed by Ukrainian Minister of Agricultural Policy Taras Vısotskiy. He stated that commercial ships have stopped entering the country's ports, attributing this to individual decisions made by shipowners and shipping companies due to security concerns, rather than any directive from the Kiev administration. Meanwhile, Russian Special Envoy Rodion Miroşnik noted that Ukraine has been using the sea route as a “24-hour open channel” for arms shipments. Miroşnik stated that approximately eight thousand military cargo ships have passed through the Odessa ports in the past three years, justifying the targeting of this infrastructure.
