New York Mayor on Netanyahu: 'No Authority to Arrest, Federal Government Must Act'

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that the city administration lacks the independent legal authority to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits New York for the UN General Assembly in September, but emphasized that the federal government should take action. Mamdani clarified his previous statements regarding the implementation of the ICC's arrest warrant against Netanyahu. Recalling that the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity, Mamdani highlighted the civilian casualties in Gaza, the targeting of hospitals, the killing of humanitarian workers and journalists, and the food blockade. Mamdani also noted the US military support to Israel, arguing that those responsible for the events should be held accountable.
